The rPath Appliance Platform includes all the services needed to provide customers with
an elegant application lifecycle experience. Maintenance, configuration, backup, networking, user management and much more are all provided to the customer via a simple browser interface. The flexible architecture also allows the application vendor to create custom plug-ins for additional, unique appliance services.
The integrated services in the rPath Appliance Platform include:
Update Service – The appliance can be configured to automatically retrieve incremental updates over the network. There is no need to reload the entire appliance each time there is an update. If an update is unsuccessful, it can be completely rolled back. Full appliance image updates are also supported with a “flip flop boot” feature that saves the previous image while the new one is being tested.
Entitlement Service – Appliance vendors use the entitlement service to quickly and easily
provision and manage licenses for each customer and field appliance.
Entitlement status determines whether a customer continues to receive
updates, and can be revoked as needed.
Configuration Service – This web-based management console allows appliance end users to
configure the settings for network connectivity, scheduled actions,
alerts and reporting.
Backup Service – End users can schedule backups of the appliance, specify the location
of the backup (such as external storage) and restore an appliance from
a previous backup.
Linux Service – rPath uses a more granular approach to Linux system components that
enables the operating system to be purpose-built for each appliance.
rPath provides regular updates, improvements and security fixes to the
Linux that is included with appliances.
